How we re-energised their recruitment

Blackbridge and E.ON have been in partnership for three years. During that time we’ve redefined an employer brand, helped to recruit many talented people and also won a few awards. Scroll down to see some of the highlights from our story.

2013 & 2014

If not you, then who?

Graduate motivations have changed. Today, it’s not just about money and career advancement. Many graduates want do something meaningful and worthwhile with their careers – and that includes actively protecting the environment.

E.ON is a leader in renewable energy, so we saw an opportunity. The result was ‘If not you, then who?’, an inspiring graduate campaign that ran for two years.

One of the campaign’s key features was ‘Room of the Future’, an installation that presented an imaginary living room from 2020. Two visions of the future were shown in the space: one where climate change was wreaking havoc, and another where companies such E.ON had improved the world by continuing to develop clean, renewable energy.

In its first year, the campaign saw a 25% increase in applications on the previous year. The calibre of candidates was high and all 45 vacancies were successfully filled. The campaign also helped E.ON to secure a place in the Times Top 100 Graduate Employers list.

At E.ON, it’s personal

2015 was a big year for our partnership. First, we created a new employer value proposition (EVP) for E.ON, a project that saw us interview and test propositions with stakeholders from all over the company. Once the EVP had been finalised, we used it to inspire a new employer brand identity.

The result was ‘At E.ON, it’s personal’, an approach that placed the customer at the heart of the employee experience. Through a new careers website and series of videos, we showed how everyone’s work connects to customers. Whether you’re working in a contact centre or helping to deliver reliable energy, the message said, you will have an impact on real people with real needs.

Millions of motivations

With the next graduate campaign we moved from environmental concerns to continue the theme of greater customer focus. It was known as ‘Millions of motivations’ and focused on all the different ways graduates could help customers as well as themselves.

We created a whole suite of materials: ads, brochure, exhibition stand and a new graduate website. We also created ‘Do it for the Watts’, a fun online game that tested knowledge about energy usage and allowed graduates to compete for a prize.

The diversity story

When it comes to diversity, E.ON has a great tale to tell. The company’s worked hard to make recruitment practices fair and to create a culture of inclusion. It’s won many awards for its efforts.

It’s not just about high-profile projects. We also supported E.ON’s resourcing team with their day-to-day recruitment needs. In the course of three years, we wrote 483 job ads for E.ON, all within a 24-hour turnaround time. All the copy was original. What’s more, we were able to ensure that it always reflected that crucial EVP.
